This section of EDI Basics highlights a number of companies that have successfully deployed EDI solutions from GXS.  The following case studies have been listed by industry to show how companies in each sector implement EDI to automate manual, paper based processes.

Chrysler
Working with GXS, Chrysler Group, LLC implemented an electronic data interchange (EDI) system to replace the paper-based communications once used to communicate with their smaller suppliers. Chrysler, an automotive giant, is now saving millions of dollars each year by streamlining their processes through GXS solutions.

Honda
Honda Foundry, a division of Honda and one of the leaders in the Japanese auto parts sector, wanted to enhance the efficiency of their business transactions. With Application Integrator, GXS now enables the company to transfer business documents electronically between their back-office systems and between the company and their customers.

Mitsubishi
Mitsubishi Motors, a leading automotive company, looked to GXS to provide global support to improve the efficiency of the company’s B2B e-commerce operations. The GXS Managed Services environment allows Mitsubishi and their global trading partners to share information seamlessly.

Coca-Cola Amatil
Producing over 1,450 million litres of beverage products a year, Coca-Cola Amatil supplies around 114,000 customers from large supermarket chains to small corner stores. In order to provide better service, Coca-Cola Amatil turned to GXS for a fully outsourced e-commerce solution.

Kodak
Eastman Kodak Company, a global leader in imaging technology, wanted to streamline and connect a variety of business functions, including accounting, production and management, plant maintenance, sales and distribution, in addition to integrating their e-business systems with SAP products. GXS’s Enterprise Gateway provides Kodak with a single system for transactions and business processes.

Liz Claiborne
Liz Claiborne Inc. a well-known designer and retailer of fashion apparel and accessories, has been a long-time customer of GXS. Over the years, they have implemented a number of GXS products to enhance operations and streamline their supply chain. Liz Claiborne has developed their e-business infrastructure from basic supplier transactions to what is now the most extensive application of B2B integration and EDI in the apparel industry, all with help from GXS.

The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company
The Scotts Miracle-Gro Company, the world’s largest marketer of branded consumer lawn and garden products, needed a way to comply with new data requirements coming from their major retail customers. They chose GXS Product Information Management (PIM) Supplier Version, enabling them to import product information to create a centralized item master file, validate against industry standards and trading partner requirements, and publish via a GDSN-certified data pool.


Financial Services

Royal Bank of Canada (RBC)
RBC has grown to become the premier bank and largest financial institution in Canada. They needed real-time visibility of their transactions to free up work time and reduce costs. GXS Managed Services provides a secure, seamless and expertly-run e-commerce environment.

Shinhan Bank
Shinhan Financial Group Co. Ltd. is Korea’s first financial holding company that delivers comprehensive financial solutions through a powerful One-Portal network. GXS Managed Services enables Shinhan Bank to introduce new services, such as global cash management and supply chain finance, to their customers.


High-Tech & Manufacturing

BSteel
Bsteel is the IT business unit of Shanghai-based Baosteel Group, the largest iron and steel producer in China. They deploy and manage Baosteel’s global B2B e-commerce strategies. Using GXS Enterprise Gateway and Trading Grid Messaging Service solutions Bsteel provides a unified platform for integrating Baosteel’s internal business units, customers and suppliers around the world to support data gathering, translation and integration into their forecast to payment supply chain execution.

Rohm and Haas
Rohm and Haas Company is a specialty materials company in the US owned by DOW, whose reported revenues are $57.5B. They wanted to eliminate the unnecessarily high operational costs and supplier management challenges within manual invoice processing. Their GXS solution provides their trading partners with a web-based, self-service portal for creating and managing electronic invoices.


Retail

Best Buy
Best Buy Co., Inc. is North America’s leading specialty retailer of consumer electronics, personal computers, entertainment software and appliances. They chose GXS Product Data Quality to increase customer satisfaction and reduce data errors along their supply chain.

DSGi
DSG international plc (DSGi), one of Europe’s leading electronic retailers, needed to streamline communications with hundreds of suppliers in order to keep up with customer demand. They turned to GXS to help improve communications, speed processes and increase efficiency in their dealings with suppliers.

WHSmith
WHSmith is one of the UK’s largest retailers who has been a long-term user of a number of EDI translation and transmission solutions from GXS to deliver their e-business strategy. More recently, WHSmith also decided to consolidate their e-commerce activities using GXS Managed Services.


Trade & Transportation

FedEx
FedEx Corp., a premier global transportation provider, wanted to provide a single gateway to support all of their e-commerce transactions. They implemented a customized GXS solution to enable data exchange between computers of any platform at any time using any communication protocol.

Royal Mail
Royal Mail, Parcelforce Worldwide and the Post Office branches use GXS Enterprise Gateway to share product catalogs, customer details, invoices and parcel tracking data between its own systems and external trading partners. EDI and XML transactions are exchanged with over 1000 trading partners and the Royal Mail’s SAP and Siebel systems.

Schenker
Schenker A/S is one of the world’s leading providers of integrated logistics services.
